-Linked to French authorities and institutions, the CFSI has among its presidents a former director of FAO, Raymond Lignon, as well as a handful of ambassadors, such as Paul-Marc Henry in 1985 (on duty in Lebanon during the Israeli campaign against the Palestinian Liberation Organisation in Beirut in 1982) and Stéphane Hessel in 1999-2001 (on duty in Algeria, he was charged, in 1975, to negotiate the liberation of anthropologist Françoise Claustre, arrested in Northern Chad by Hissène Habré’s rebels, who asked for weapons; in 1990, he was also the author of an official report on French cooperation in developing countries).
