International Islamic Relief Organisation of Saudi Arabia (al-Ighata al-Islamiya al-'alamiya) - Comments

1) The mission

-The IIRO first specialized in the distribution of emergency relief to the victims of natural disasters and wars. With the creation of various departments for education in 1985, civil engineering in 1987 and agriculture in 1993, the organization then turned towards development activities on a longer range, for instance in favour of small businesses that can help people to find employment and earn a living. Yet it still sent food and parcels to the victims of the tsunami of the 26th of December 2004, in the Indian Ocean, and the earthquake of the 8th of October 2005, in Kashmir.

-Although the IIRO pretends that its relief work is conducted on purely humanitarian grounds, without any distinction on the basis of ethnic, linguistic or religious considerations, it actually helps Muslims only, never Christians. To justify this discrimination, the NGO claimed on its website that more than 80% of the victims of wars or disasters in the world were Muslim, which is not true.
