1) The mission
-A multidisciplinary NGO, NPA works both on emergencies and long term development programmes. Regarding armed conflicts since the start of the 1990s, it has specialised a lot in mine clearance, i.e. in Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Angola, Iran, Southern Lebanon, Ethiopia, Thailand, Tamil controlled territory in Sri Lanka and Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria. Nevertheless, NPA does not work in developing countries only. In Norway, where it claimed more than 11,000 volunteers in 2002, it runs mountain rescue operations, provides first aid in case of accidents or drowning, helps old or handicapped persons, defends the rights of immigrants and runs hostels for them.
