-BD and EF are part of the alter-globalization movement. They are critical of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and in some respects, the European Commission. To them, a more solidarity-influenced world economy is crucial to sustainable development. They argue that economic growth and capitalism should be more inclusive by considering social interests, fiscal justice, sustainable agriculture, the preservation of biodiversity, and environmental issues for future generations. EF furthered their critique of the neoliberal ideology of Washington and Brussels by indicating their disregard for democratic values and transparency. Both organizations have called for a complete annulment of the debt of the world’s poorest countries.
