Aide médicale internationale - History

1990-1999

-1994, France: with new institutional backers, AMI undertakes a strategic about-turn, and goes professional, at the detriment of the voluntary spirit of the beginnings.

-From 1999, Comoros: during a cholera epidemic, AMI opens an office in the island of Anjouan, under an embargo since it proclaimed its independence in 1997. Although this programme is backed by the European Union, and not directly by France, AMI, one of the few NGOs there, helps the secessionists get round the embargo.
