​1) The mission
-Apart from relief, the organisation also runs development programmes in Mali, Niger and Haiti. With proper equipment adapted to the local context, AMI wants to promote preventive measures over curative medicine, and to involve the population in the programmes, through women groups, traditional healers, elders or teachers. The organisation says it combines “modern medical techniques with customary practices, as long as they do not harm the patient’s health or dignity”. Always concerned about the social impact of its actions, AMI also takes care of the health of villagers living around refugee camps, which are often better provided with medical equipment, as in Thailand, for instance.
