-Unlike Southern European NGOs, which are usually less transparent, annual reports of NRC state the salary of the general-secretary.
 
-Like many NGOs which try to diversify their source of income, NRC developed its marketing strategy in order to attract private funding. This sometimes provoked internal tensions between the departments of communication and operations. After the Asiatic tsunami of December 2004, for instance, some members of the staff perceived the decision to rebuilt all damaged schools in Sri Lanka as a way to create public attention, attract a wider range of donor funding and play in line with the political strategies of Norwegian authorities. Exacerbated by the usual differences between field offices and headquarters in Oslo, such a situation showed the potential contradiction between the need for media exposure and rational assessments for the department of operations.
